Design Tips from Martyn: Dinner Party Table Setting Tips

The art of setting a dinner table really is an art, and it lets you be very, very creative. I always like to mix things up a little bit, particularly with my dinnerware.

Here I have two different designs of china that I love, the black and the silver and the green and the silver. I like the idea of sort of mixing these and layering them, using one of them as a charger, another one as the dinner plate. I love the idea of kind of adding another one from the other set on top to create this layered effect, and even take a different one for my bread and butter plate. I also like to do the same trick with glasses. So either, in this case, a green to pick out the greens from this set, mixed with a little purple moment. I love purple. I love the way the color feels on the table. Kind of giving, again, a bit more character going into the mix, and then to capture it,

I add a little purple napkin that ties in the glass. Alternatively, you can do a simple, pretty wine glass that sits in the mix, and then maybe take a colored water glass, pretty green. This one’s got blue, purple and green in it, and that sort of mixes it up. And again, you can change out your napkin to create a whole new vibe and look at the table. The napkins are really inexpensive. Way to kind of change this up. You can buy many colors and refresh the look of your table constantly.

It is always fun to be creative, and it just somehow makes dinner taste so much better
