One of my favorite treasures to find when traveling the world is Murano glass. The colors, delicate detail, and centuries of craftsmanship make each piece feel like a little work of art. From 18th century chandeliers … to these stunning mid century bowls, they always bring a sophisticated moment to any space. I have a beautiful collection available in my atelier on Melrose!
The swirling, whirling beauty of this kind of glass is synonymous with Murano. Murano and Burano are two very beautiful little islands that sit within the area known as Venice.
Now the history of Murano glass is kind of fascinating. Even by the eighth century, glass had become a synonymous trade within the Venetian country. At the time around the 1200’s the dojo Venice decided that the furnaces in Venice were too dangerous and too close for the beautiful St. Mark’s Square, and so they had everything moved to the little island of Murano, the trade routes around the world started to import the beautiful glass that we now know today as the glass of Murano.
I’m very passionate about Murano glass. I love the vintage pieces. I love the early pieces, the beautiful 18th & 19th century chandeliers, even the pieces that are produced today. It’s kind of a bit of a dying art form.
