Martyn Lawrence Bullard comes home to Palm Springs for Live, Love & Decorate, his series on ‪@Homeworthy‬.
The very name conjures a shimmer of heat, the geometry of mid century rooflines against a cobalt sky, and the glamour of Hollywood’s golden era, when movie stars escaped the studios and built their own paradise in the desert. Here the great architects Cody, Frey, Lautner, and Williams gave form to those dreams, leaving behind a citywide monument to modern design.
In this episode, Martyn opens the doors to the city he calls home some of the time. The journey begins with fashion designer Trina Turk at the Ship of the Desert, a breathtaking 1930s Streamline Moderne home at the foot of the mountains, then continues to the iconic Batman house, once home to actor Adam West and reimagined by designer Michelle Boudreau, and the Shag house, a bold creative collaboration with artist Josh Agle. Along the way, the glittering opening gala of Modernism Week, a visit to the legendary Abernathy House, one of architect William Cody’s greatest masterworks, and finally Martyn’s own slice of heaven in the heart of the desert.
