Imperial Arms Pub
This charming eighteenth century pub in Chislehurst was bought by my sister, Tina, and her partner, Alan, to start a new chapter in their careers. My sister, an avid and adventurous cook, wanted to create a fine gastropub that would offer the local clientele excellent, simple, well-priced food, while Alan wanted to bring quality draft beers and fine wines to the area.
I have always loved the charm of an English country pub, but so many have either disappeared or been turned into a cliche of modern bleached country pine. Instead, we chose to submerse the new decor in deep reds with black trim, hints of gold, and graphic wall coverings to give an old-school charm. Just as I intended, authenticity reigns at the Imperial Arms: a cozy pub where visitors can gather around the fireplace in winter or sip Pimms in the courtyard in summer, surrounded by the history of the place.
