Martyn Lawrence Bullard transforms a restored 1920’s barn in Summerland, California into Godmothers Bookstore, an immersive sanctuary for connection, creativity, and storytelling. Celebrated as “a sanctuary for ideas and creativity” by Town & Country and “undoubtedly America’s prettiest new bookstore” by Forbes, the space exemplifies his masterful blend of historic charm and modern warmth
As the store’s design anchor, Martyn shaped both the contemplative upstairs gathering space, with a cozy fireplace platform and layered vintage-meets-industrial ambiance, and the enchanting children’s floor, bright and imaginative. His design supports the bookstore’s mission: to feel like home from the moment you step inside, underpinned by a sense of eclectic soulfulness and cinematic storytelling
