As you enter the Freedman main house in Maui, a spectacular staircase dominates the space, serving as the estate’s backbone. Hand-carved by local craftsmen and wrapped in rope for an island-inspired handrail, the koa wood spiral staircase resembles a fish spine. Vintage Eames stools add a mid-century touch, keeping the aesthetic modern and eclectic. The custom sofa features fabric by Peter Dunham, while the cocktail table is sourced from Jayson Home.
The beauty of this tropical bedroom extends beyond its four-poster bed and vibrant printed linens to the turquoise ocean and sandy shores of Paia Beach just outside the window.
The walls are adorned with Phillip Jeffries grasscloth, and the Thomas Hayes bed is dressed in custom linens by Scandia Home, topped with a duvet cover in Christopher Farr Cloth fabric. The bed curtains are crafted from Kerry Joyce fabric, and the armchairs are upholstered in Paper Mills fabric. Complementing the vintage Roger Capron cocktail table is a custom bar cabinet and rug by Marc Phillips. Finally, striking artwork by Rupprecht Geiger adds a bold accent throughout the space.
