Elton John and David Furnish

Sir Elton John and David Furnish are both men of great taste.

Their homes are filled with their passions and carefully curated collections, which mirror their personalities. They live lives that are full.

It is always amazing for a designer to work with a great art collection and to feel the passion that exudes from the clients who have assembled it.

In addition to Elton’s monumental career as one of the most successful musical artists of all time, guided by David’s management in his role as CEO of Rocket Entertainment (music, film, theatre, and TV) they have devoted their lives to the Elton John AIDS Foundation. The charity has saved the lives of millions of people around the world, and strives to free the world of AIDS by 2030.

Their Los Angeles base is a quintessentially stylish mid-century home nestled into the hills with inspiring views over the city. The interiors that I designed, hand-in-hand with David and Elton, create a perfectly scaled family home. The house itself is not extravagant by any means, but it is the perfect backdrop to a beautiful art collection that is an immediate window into their personal style. Mixed in with the collection is Italian, French, and American furniture from the 1960s and 1970s. Terrazzo floors, crisp lacquered walls, and signature pops of color (both of them, fortunately for me, love color) allow the art to be the star of the interior, as well as encouraging the eye to travel to the beautiful views beyond.

The home is a very personal space, filled with books and objects collected from worldwide travels and adventures. These sit seamlessly among artworks and a kaleidoscopically colored art glass collection, all bringing personality and energy to the rooms.

It is always amazing for a designer to work with a great art collection and to feel the passion that exudes from the clients who have assembled it. Elton and David love to support artists of all kinds, as well as being surrounded by their works, but for me the greatest joy is to be personally inspired by these amazing humans who are so passionate about beauty, tolerance, and making the world a better place.
